The Story Behind TBF Environmental – Developing new VOC Compliant Solvents Safe for the Environment | The Green Solvents Show #001

The Green Solvents Show #001

Many solvents used in industry contain volatile organic compounds. When emitted to the atmosphere, VOCs contribute to the formation of ground-level ozone which produces smog. VOCs are also harmful to human health. The EPA has introduced maximum VOC content levels for hundreds of products to limit the emission of VOCs. TBF Environmental develops industrial solvents which perform well in a wide range of applications, but which contain zero or very small levels of VOCs. Companies manufacturing products using solvents can meet the VOC regulations and reduce the risk to health and safety while maintaining solvent performance.

Invest 20 minutes to listen to The Green Solvents Show. Host Erik Reynolds interviews Dave Pasin, President of TBF Environmental, about the MIR value and its importance in controlling harmful emissions.

The Founding of TBF Environmental

Dave begins this podcast by discussing the origins of TBF a few years ago at a trade show. Dave Pasin struck up a conversation with a fellow exhibitor about solvents. The man told Dave Pasin that his company used methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) as a solvent for cleaning, but were concerned about health and safety of their workers and the environment. They had been looking for years for a safer solvent to replace MEK but had found nothing and doubted that they ever would. Dave Pasin took this as a challenge – to develop a substitute for MEK that performed as well, but also was less toxic and polluting, and could meet the regulatory restrictions on VOC content.

Dave hired an astute and exceptional chemist not bound by conventional thinking. Together they developed a new solvent that mimics the solvent performance of MEK, while producing negligible amounts of VOC, and considered to be VOC-compliant by every regulator in the US.

TBF’s Contribution to the Environment

TBF Environmental develops and designs VOC compliant solvents that emit zero or negligible quantities of VOCs, hazardous air pollutants, and ozone creators and depletors while providing excellent solvent performance across a wide range of uses.

During this podcast, Dave also discusses:

  • Industrial applications for solvents
  • Solvents TBF products replace
  • The growing demand of solvents

Dave explains the different uses of solvents, and indicates that more applications are being discovered through continued research and customer feedback.
